The first time we put in a BYD system and the solar array at the same time: a proper from-scratch installation in Verwood rather than an upgrade.
The home and the goal
This homeowner came to us through a referral and wanted solar and storage designed together from day one. The garage gave a good, dry home for the inverter and battery.
What we installed
- 14 x 480W panels (6.7 kWp)
- BYD Power-Box 4.6kW hybrid inverter
- BYD Battery-Box with 6.4 and 4.2 modules, 10.6 kWh of storage
- DC and AC isolation, consumer unit and labelling all set out on one garage wall
Why we designed it this way
Because the whole system went in together, the array, the inverter and the battery were sized against each other and against the household’s actual consumption from the outset. It also makes for a noticeably tidier installation, with everything landing where it was designed to land.
The BYD Battery-Box is slim and modular. This home has a 6.4 module and a 4.2 module today, and if their usage changes they can add capacity later without replacing what is already there.
How it works day to day
The hybrid inverter powers the home from the panels first, stores the surplus in the Battery-Box and draws on it in the evening. BYD approve only a small group of UK installers, and DES Renewable Energy is one of them.
Questions homeowners ask about a system like this
Why put the battery in the garage?
A garage keeps the battery dry and out of the weather, and keeps the kit together in one tidy place.
Can more BYD modules be added?
Yes. The Battery-Box is modular, so capacity can be added later to the same tower.
