The challenge
The school's energy costs rose sharply after the start of the Ukraine conflict, and it wanted to cut its exposure to volatile prices while moving towards net zero. A carbon review by Low Carbon Dorset in 2023 recommended solar PV, and grant funding made the project viable. The school met four installers, Low Carbon Dorset assessed the quotes, and DES was chosen.
What we did
We carried out a full assessment of the school's energy use, roof space and sun exposure, then designed a 250 panel system using a structural engineer's report, shading analysis and the existing electrical layout. As an MCS certified installer and NAPIT accredited electrical contractor, we handled the DNO approval and compliance, installed the panels, connected them to central inverters, then tested, commissioned and set up monitoring.
