Solar panels installed with bird proofing to prevent damage from birds nesting under them, together with Sunsynk battery storage and emergency backup.
The goal
The homeowner wanted a large array and battery storage, and to avoid the mess and damage that nesting pigeons can cause under panels.
What we installed
- 24 x Eurener 451W solar panels (10.82 kWp)
- 1 x Sunsynk 8kW inverter
- 2 x Sunsynk 5.12 kWh batteries
- 1 x EPS (emergency power supply)
- Bird proofing mesh around the full array
Why we designed it this way
The gap under solar panels is sheltered and warm, which makes it attractive to pigeons. Mesh around the edge of the array keeps birds out without drilling into the panels themselves.
An 8kW Sunsynk inverter suits an array of this size, and two batteries give over 10 kWh of storage for the evening.
How it works day to day
The panels power the home and charge the batteries during the day, the batteries cover the evening, and the EPS keeps essential circuits running if the grid goes down.
Questions homeowners ask about a system like this
Can bird proofing be added to existing panels?
Yes. We fit mesh to existing arrays too, and clear out any nesting material first.
