Solar Panel Finance: Spread the Cost of Going Solar

How can we help?

Solar panels are one of the best long-term investments you can make in your home — but the upfront cost is the single biggest thing that puts people off. The good news is that paying for a system outright isn’t the only option. This page explains, honestly, the ways you can spread the cost of going solar and how to work out what suits your budget.

Two ways to pay for solar

Broadly there are two routes: buy your system outright, or spread the cost with finance. Both leave you owning the system and everything it generates — the difference is simply whether you pay once or over time.

  • Outright purchase — the lowest total cost, because there is no interest to pay. You are out of pocket up front, then the savings and export income build from day one.
  • Solar finance — spread the cost into manageable monthly payments so you can get solar working now rather than waiting until you have saved the full amount.

Spreading the cost with solar finance

If funding the whole system at once is not practical, finance lets you spread it over a term while still owning the system outright — it is not a rent-a-roof arrangement. We can arrange finance through our FCA-authorised partner, so you can talk through the monthly options as part of your quote.

Because your solar system starts cutting your electricity bills straight away, many households find the bill savings and export income help offset the monthly payment — so you feel the benefit sooner rather than waiting years for payback. The right term and amount depend entirely on your system size and circumstances, which is why we always give you the real figures for your home rather than a headline number.

Finance is subject to status and credit checks. We will never pressure you towards it — if buying outright suits you better, we will say so.

What makes solar more affordable than it first looks

Whichever way you pay, a few things improve the maths:

  • 0% VAT on residential solar and battery installations until 31 March 2027 — a real, time-limited saving on the installed price.
  • The Smart Export Guarantee pays you for the surplus energy you send back to the grid, turning unused generation into income.
  • Lower bills from day one — every unit you generate and use is a unit you do not buy, which is what offsets a monthly finance payment.

We do not quote system prices online, because an honest figure depends on your roof, your usage and the right system size — but you can get a realistic picture of the savings side before you speak to anyone.
