Sentinel Healthcare: 117.67 kWp Care Home Solar, Fordingbridge

How can we help?

Sentinel Healthcare is a care home in Fordingbridge, part of Allegra Care. To reduce the running costs of the home and support its environmental goals, it partnered with DES Renewable Energy to install a rooftop solar PV system that generates clean electricity on site, lowers energy bills, and supports its long-term sustainability goals.

Project overview

Sentinel Healthcare commissioned DES Renewable Energy to install a 117.67 kWp solar PV system across its roof. The installation comprised 287 x 410 W Hyundai panels connected to two SolaX X3-MEGA G2 inverters (40 kW and 60 kW). The project aimed to reduce electricity costs, lower carbon emissions, and enhance long-term financial sustainability. It’s a strong example of our work on solar panels for care homes.

Project details

  • Company: Sentinel Healthcare (Allegra Care)
  • Location: Station Road, Fordingbridge, SP6 1JW
  • Solar system capacity: 117.67 kWp
  • Estimated annual generation: 97,553 kWh
  • Installation type: Pitched roof solar panels
  • Project timeline: Delivered 2024–2026, from survey to commissioning

The objectives

  • Reduce electricity costs and dependence on grid energy
  • Improve environmental sustainability by reducing the carbon footprint
  • Achieve long-term operational savings and financial returns
  • Demonstrate responsible energy practices to residents, staff and visitors

The solution: bespoke assessment and design

DES Renewable Energy conducted a comprehensive assessment of roof space, structural considerations, sun exposure and interlocking constraints to ensure optimal placement and system sizing. The system was designed with 287 x 410 W Hyundai panels across the roof, with power conversion handled by two SolaX X3-MEGA G2 inverters (40 kW and 60 kW), integrated with the home’s existing electrical infrastructure. We ensured full compliance with building regulations, electrical standards and industry best practice, obtaining all necessary permits and approvals.

Installation and completion

The installation was carried out with minimal disruption to the day-to-day running of the home. Panels were securely mounted, connected to the inverters, and integrated with the existing electrical system, before comprehensive testing and commissioning verified the system’s performance, functionality and safety. From initial assessment to completed commissioning, DES Renewable Energy provided a turnkey solution.

The results

  • Energy cost reduction: lower electricity bills and reduced reliance on grid energy.
  • Environmental impact: around 97,553 kWh of clean energy each year, saving an estimated 20.2 tonnes of CO2 annually.
  • Financial returns: ongoing energy savings contribute to long-term financial sustainability.
  • Public image: demonstrates responsible energy practices to residents, staff and visitors.
