A high-performance solar and battery installation in Eastleigh, with panel-level optimisers to deal with a complex roof and more than 20 kWh of storage.
The home and the goal
The roof here has several faces at different angles, with trees and dormers casting shade at points in the day. The homeowner wanted a large battery so far more of their solar could be used at home.
What we installed
- 20 x Aiko 460W panels (9.2 kWp)
- Tigo optimisers
- SolaX X1 inverter
- 4 battery modules with over 20 kWh of storage
- Full bird proofing
Why we designed it this way
Splitting an array across several roof faces means each group of panels sees the sun at a different time. Tigo optimisers keep the panels performing in changing light, so one shaded panel does not hold back the rest.
With over 20 kWh of storage, the battery can soak up a good day’s surplus and still have capacity left to run the home well into the evening.

How it works day to day
The SolaX inverter gives the homeowner complete visibility and control over their energy use from the app, including how much is coming from the panels, the battery and the grid at any moment.
The installation
From the initial survey to commissioning, everything was done in-house by our own team. Bird proofing was fitted around the array during the install.
Questions homeowners ask about a system like this
Why so much battery storage?
A larger battery lets a home use more of its own solar, and on a time-of-use tariff it can also store cheaper overnight electricity in winter.
Do optimisers help on every roof?
They help most where a roof has shade or panels facing different ways, as here. On a clean, unshaded roof they are not always needed.
