“How much is a Sigenergy battery?” is one of the most common questions we get. The honest answer is that it depends on a handful of choices, and two homes with the same battery can end up with quite different quotes. We do not publish prices because every home is different, but here is exactly what moves the number, so you can compare quotes properly.
1. How many battery modules you need
The SigenStor is modular. Each Energy Controller takes between one and six battery modules, in two sizes: 5.2 kWh and 7.8 kWh usable. More modules means more storage and more cost, so the biggest saving is not buying more battery than you can use.
We size the battery from your actual usage: how much you use in the evening and overnight, whether you have or are planning an EV or heat pump, and how much solar you generate. A battery that empties every night and refills every day is earning its keep. One that never gets below half full was oversized.
2. The Energy Controller size and phase
The Energy Controller is the hybrid inverter on top of the stack. Larger controllers cost more, and three phase controllers cost more than single phase ones. The right size depends on your solar array, how much power you want the battery to deliver at once, and your DNO export limit.
3. Whether you want backup
Battery storage on its own does not keep the lights on in a power cut. For that you need a Sigen Gateway and the wiring to go with it. Whole-home backup with the HomePro SP-F gateway costs more than partial backup, and it can involve changes to your consumer unit. If backup matters to you, say so at survey so it is in the quote from the start. Our Sigenergy Gateway guide explains the options.
4. Solar at the same time, or battery only
Fitting solar and a SigenStor together usually gives the best value per kWh, because the controller runs both and the scaffolding and labour are shared. Adding a battery to existing solar is common too, and the controller can often replace an older solar inverter. A battery with no solar at all can still pay on the right tariff. See our guide on batteries without solar panels.
5. EV charging
A Sigen 7 kW AC charger is a modest addition. The Sigen DC charging module is a much bigger investment and only makes sense for a small number of households today. Most people are better served by a standard AC charger. More in our Sigenergy EV charger guide.
6. Your electrics and the installation itself
- Consumer unit upgrades if your board is old or full
- Cable runs from the meter to the battery location
- Indoor or outdoor siting, and any protection needed
- Earthing and bonding work
- DNO applications for larger systems
A good quote spells all of these out. A cheap quote that leaves them out usually comes back as extras later.
7. Who installs it
Sigenergy is a young brand, founded in 2022. That makes the installer more important, not less. Check that your installer is MCS certified, that the people fitting it are their own team rather than a subcontractor, and that they will commission the mySigen app, register your warranty and support you afterwards. Our guide to the SigenStor battery covers the warranty in detail.
What about VAT?
Residential solar and battery installations currently qualify for 0 percent VAT in Great Britain until 31 March 2027. That applies to a Sigenergy battery fitted in a home by an installer, and it is worth factoring into your timing.
How to compare Sigenergy quotes
- Check the usable capacity, not just the nominal figure, and the number and size of modules.
- Check the Energy Controller model and whether it is single or three phase.
- Check whether a gateway is included, and which model.
- Check what electrical work is included.
- Check the warranty: manufacturer, workmanship and insurance-backed guarantee.
