Grange Farm, Laverstoke: 48 kWp Ground-Mounted Farm Solar, Hampshire

How can we help?

Grange Farm, Laverstoke is a working farm at Laverstoke, near Whitchurch in Hampshire. Like many energy-hungry agricultural operations, the farm recognised the potential of its land to generate clean power, so it partnered with DES Renewable Energy to install a ground-mounted solar PV system that generates clean electricity onsite, lowers energy bills and supports its long-term sustainability goals.

Project overview

Grange Farm, Laverstoke commissioned DES Renewable Energy to deliver a 48 kWp ground-mounted solar PV system. The installation comprises 100 x 480W Longi panels connected to a Solis S5 three-phase 60kW inverter, designed to reduce electricity costs, lower carbon emissions and enhance the farm’s long-term financial sustainability.

Project details

  • Company: Grange Farm, Laverstoke
  • Location: 1 Grange Farm, Laverstoke, Whitchurch, RG28 7PF
  • Solar system capacity: 48 kWp
  • Estimated annual generation: 45,600 kWh
  • Installation type: Ground-mounted solar panels
  • Project timeline: Sold and scheduled for installation in 2026

The objectives

  • Reduce electricity costs and dependence on grid energy
  • Improve environmental sustainability by reducing the farm’s carbon footprint
  • Achieve long-term operational savings and financial returns
  • Demonstrate responsible energy practices to the farm, its staff and the local community

The solution: bespoke assessment and design

DES Renewable Energy conducted a comprehensive assessment of the site, including structural considerations, sun exposure and interlocking constraints. This ensured optimal placement and system sizing to maximise energy production and long-term reliability.

The system was designed as a ground-mounted array with 100 x 480W Longi panels, with power conversion handled by a Solis S5 three-phase 60kW inverter. The design integrates with the site’s existing electrical infrastructure for efficient energy management, and DES Renewable Energy ensures compliance with building regulations, electrical standards and industry best practices, with all necessary permits and approvals obtained for a fully compliant, safe installation.

Installation and completion

Sold and scheduled for installation in 2026, the project will be carried out with minimal disruption to day-to-day site operations. Panels will be securely mounted, connected to the inverter and integrated with the existing electrical system, with comprehensive testing and commissioning verifying the system’s performance, functionality and safety. From initial assessment to completed commissioning, DES Renewable Energy provides a turnkey solution that ensures optimal energy generation, regulatory compliance and sustainable operational savings.

The results

  • Energy cost reduction: lower electricity bills and reduced reliance on grid energy
  • Environmental impact: an estimated 45,600 kWh of clean energy each year, saving an estimated 9.4 tonnes of CO2 annually and supporting the farm’s sustainability goals
  • Financial returns: savings on energy costs contribute to long-term financial sustainability
  • Public image: demonstrates responsible energy practices to the farm, its staff and the local community
