Bridlington Rugby Union Football Club is a community rugby union club based in Bridlington, East Yorkshire. To reduce the running costs of its facilities, the club partnered with DES Renewable Energy to install a rooftop solar PV system with battery storage that generates clean electricity onsite, lowers energy bills and supports its long-term sustainability goals.
Project overview
Bridlington Rugby Union Football Club commissioned DES Renewable Energy to install a 70.2 kWp solar PV system across its pitched and flat roofs. The installation comprised 120 x 585W Astronergy panels connected to a SolaX X3 Mega 60kW (X3-MGA-60K-G2) three-phase inverter, paired with a SolaX Aelio 91.9 kWh battery storage system. The project aimed to reduce electricity costs, lower carbon emissions and enhance long-term financial sustainability.
Project details
- Company: Bridlington Rugby Union Football Club
- Location: Dukes Park, Queens Gate, Bridlington, East Riding of Yorkshire, YO16 7LN
- Solar system capacity: 70.2 kWp
- Estimated annual generation: 66,690 kWh
- Installation type: Pitched and flat roof solar panels with battery storage
- Project timeline: Designed and specified by DES Renewable Energy
The objectives
- Reduce electricity costs and dependence on grid energy
- Improve environmental sustainability by reducing the club’s carbon footprint
- Achieve long-term operational savings and financial returns
- Demonstrate responsible energy practices to members, visitors and the local community
The solution: bespoke assessment and design
DES Renewable Energy conducted a comprehensive assessment of roof space, structural considerations, sun exposure and interlocking constraints. This ensured optimal placement and system sizing to maximise energy production and long-term reliability.
The system was designed with 120 x 585W Astronergy panels across the pitched and flat roofs. Power conversion is handled by a SolaX X3 Mega 60kW (X3-MGA-60K-G2) three-phase inverter, paired with a SolaX Aelio 91.9 kWh battery to maximise self-consumption. The system integrates with the site’s existing electrical infrastructure for efficient energy management.
DES Renewable Energy ensured compliance with building regulations, electrical standards and industry best practice. All necessary permits and approvals were obtained to guarantee a fully compliant and safe installation.
Installation and completion
The installation was carried out with minimal disruption to day-to-day site operations. Panels were securely mounted, connected to the inverter and integrated with the existing electrical system. Comprehensive testing and commissioning verified the system’s performance, functionality and safety. From initial assessment to completed commissioning, DES Renewable Energy provided a turnkey solution that ensures optimal energy generation, regulatory compliance and sustainable operational savings.
The results
- Energy cost reduction: lower electricity bills and reduced reliance on grid energy
- Environmental impact: around 66,690 kWh of estimated clean energy each year, saving an estimated 13.8 tonnes of CO2 annually
- Financial returns: savings on energy costs contribute to long-term financial sustainability
- Public image: demonstrates responsible energy practices to members, visitors and the local community
