A home battery lets you store the solar energy you generate during the day and use it in the evening, instead of buying it back from the grid. But which battery is right for you? Here’s an honest comparison of three of the most popular systems we install — Tesla Powerwall, GivEnergy and Sunsynk — so you can see how they differ.

Which battery is right for you?
There’s no single “best” battery — the right choice depends on your energy use, how much backup matters to you, your existing inverter, and how much capacity you need. The Tesla Powerwall is a great fit if you want large capacity and premium whole-home backup in one unit. GivEnergy suits those who like a flexible, expandable, UK-supported system. Sunsynk works well in flexible hybrid setups. We fit all three and will give you a straight recommendation rather than pushing one brand. For more detail on the Powerwall specifically, see our Tesla Powerwall guide.
Do you even need a battery?
A battery isn’t essential, but it dramatically increases how much of your own solar you use — typically from around 40% to as much as 80%. It’s especially worthwhile if you’re out during the day, want backup power, or have an EV. Learn more on our battery storage page.
